There is an interesting story to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just over the dividing line from next door Thailand, where gambling den wagering is against the law. Eight gambling dens are situated in a generally tiny area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia casinos is in a perfect spot, a three to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest betting locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The phenomenal capital acquired from the casinos ranges from $7.5 million to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a few controls requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be mostly Thai; still, financial sources are vague. The borders are ceremoniously open from 09:00 to 1700, and even though visas are allegedly needed to pass, there are means around this, as is correct of many borders.
The first Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just 1 gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored ship gambling den, features one hundred and fifty slot machine games and sixty gaming tables. The Naga gambling hall is open all day and night with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, four tables of 21, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The original gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly opened. There are one hundred and fifty slot machine games and five table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machine games and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slot machine games and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slots and 96 table games, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and 66 of the normal gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, again a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a multinational resort and hotel compound that highlights numerous amenities aside from the casino, which has 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty one armed bandits and 88 tables.
