There is an appealing story to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just across the border from neighboring Thailand, where casino wagering is not permitted. Eight gambling halls are established in a relatively tiny area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia casinos is in a perfect area, a 3 to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai laborers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The astonishing income accrued from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of controls constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; still, investment sources are cryptic. The borders are ceremoniously open from 09:00 to 5:00 p.m., and despite the fact visas are supposedly needed to pass, there are methods around this, as is accurate of many border crossings.
The first Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only a single gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary ship gambling hall, contains 150 slot machines and 60 gaming tables. The Naga river boat never closes with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of vingt-et-un, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly followed. There are one hundred and fifty slot machine games and five table games at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slot machines and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety six gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five one armed bandits and sixty six of the common gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, also a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a comprehensive resort and hotel compound that contains numerous luxuries on top of the gambling den, which has 10,000 square feet of 130 slots and eighty eight tables.
