There is an appealing history to the Cambodia gambling dens that lie just across the border from next door Thailand, in which gambling den betting is not permitted. Eight casinos are situated in a relatively small area in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia casinos is in a perfect spot, a 3 to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai laborers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The astonishing income accrued from the casinos ranges from $7.5 million to over 12.5 million, and there are a couple of restrictions constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be largely Thai; although, financing sources are cryptic. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 5:00 p.m., and despite the fact visas are allegedly needed to cross, there are methods around this, as is true of most borders.
The initial Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored ship casino, contains one hundred and fifty slot machines and 60 table games. The Naga gambling den never closes with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of 21, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The 1st gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long followed. There are one hundred and fifty slot machines and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machine games and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slot machine games and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and ninety six table games, including eighty seven baccarat (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and sixty six of the normal gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a comprehensive vacation and hotel building that features many comforts on top of the gambling hall, which has ten thousand square feet of one hundred and thirty slot machines and 88 table games.
