There is a fascinating story to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just across the border from neighboring Thailand, in which casino wagering is not permitted. Eight gambling dens are anchored in a generally small area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime destination, a three to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The amazing capital gained from the gambling dens ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of limitations requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is required to be mainly Thai; although, financing sources are cryptic. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 5:00 p.m., and even though visas are supposedly needed to pass, there are methods and means around this, as is correct of many border crossings.

The original Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored boat gambling den, features 150 slot machine games and sixty table games. The Naga river boat is open all day and night with 42 tables of mini-baccarat banque, four tables of twenty-one, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The initial casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown before long opened. A total of 150 slot machine games and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slots and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machine games and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 punto banco (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and sixty six of the normal gaming tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight casinos in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-inclusive vacation and hotel building that features numerous comforts accompanying the casino, which offers ten thousand sq.ft. of 130 slots and 88 table games.
